President's Message
Message from G.B.B.NANDY @ GAANESH JP, AMN, President, Sabah Law Association
It is indeed an honour and privilege to be given the opportunity to write a few
words in the Sabah Law Association’s website as its President for the term 2011
to 2013.
First and foremost, I wish to express my sincere and humble gratitude to the members
for electing me as the President of this prestigious association. At the same time,
please accept my profuse apologizes for not writing this message much earlier. This
is because I was rather tied up attending to several matters that needed the Association’s
urgent attention. Besides that, I was trying my level best to streamline and restructure
the administration of our Secretariat as I believe that our “house” must be put
in order to serve the members better.
As I have said at the Annual General Meeting held on 30th June 2011, I would make
it a priority, among others, to look into the following matters during my term as
the President of the Sabah Law Association for the years 2011-2013:
1.
to use all the available avenues to push hard for the amendments to the Sabah Advocates
Ordinance to come into force and while waiting for that, I will work hard for the
proposed Pupillage Rules and Web-Site Rules, among others, to be gazetted;
2.
to push for speedier sub-division of titles and issuance of subsidiary titles; and
3.
to propose and to make amendments to the Sabah Law Association’s Constitution, among
others, include:
(i)
to allow branches to be established in Tawau and Sandakan to encourage members to
participate and to play a more active role in the affairs of our Association; and
(ii)
to restrict the term of office that can be held by the President.
Apart from looking into the matters stated above, the Sabah Law Association has,
in this short span of time, been very busy holding series of meetings to address
various issues and problems associated with enforcement of the “no discount” rule
(that came into force on 1st October 2010) which is of utmost importance to us.
Lastly, I respectfully urge all the members to support the Sabah Law Association
by giving feed-back /input regularly regarding the problems faced in the course
of practice as an advocate and also to inform us about how the Sabah Law Association
should improve itself. We welcome all valuable criticisms and we pledge to work
harder to serve you better.
G.B.B.NANDY @ GAANESH JP, AMN
